Robert Pattinson has got nothing on THESE vampires

You might think that with Buffy, Twilight and True Blood, we've got more than enough vampire shows to satisfy our cravings for the folk with fangs – but that was before we heard about The Vampire Diaries. Made by the man behind Dawson's Creek and Scream and starring three extremely hot young talents in the shape of Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley, The Vampire Diaries is set in a modern world where real vampires laugh at Twilight and nice girls next door fall in love with them. We caught up with Ian, Nina and Paul this weekend after they took part in a very special Q&A session at the Apple Store in London, and asked them what it is about The Vampire Diaries that makes it so great. "We fall into this really great niche," Paul told us. "Thirteen-year-old girls can't sit and watch True Blood

with their parents – that would be awkward." Ian agrees, adding, "It's different. There's a subtle sort of humour." Asked if they've ever experienced the same sort of craziness as fellow vamp Robert Pattinson, Ian admits, "People ask me to bite them a lot." Paul, too. "A girl asked me to bite her as well, in a bar," he tells us. Eek! However, none of them are at the stage where they can't leave the house. "We're not that popular yet," jokes Ian, as Paul adds, "He [R-Pattz] can't even go out. Not even Johnny Depp is at his level. I don't think I'd want that." When we asked what it is about vampires that audiences can't seem to get enough of, all three were in agreement that humans love the idea of "danger and love" together, with Ian explaining, "As a vampire you lose the constraints of a mortal human. Humans are lured to something that's sexy and dangerous at the same time." Ian, Nina and Paul are staying here in London for a few days to "hang out and be tourists" and Nina told us excitedly that she can't wait to visit Topshop. Wise lady.

If you'd like a sneak peek at The Vampire Diaries, you can download the very first episode on iTunes right NOW. It's already stormed straight to the top of their chart. The whole series will start on ITV2 early next year. We can't wait!

[Video] Nina Dobrev Reveals Startling Upcoming ‘Vampire Diaries’ Plot Twist

As we all know on “Vampire Diaries,” Damon (Ian Somerhalder) has always had his eye on Elena (Nina Dobrev). He’s even teased his brother — and Elena’s boyfriend — Stefan (Paul Wesley), that he thinks she’s major eye candy. But, with Stefan and Elena finally going there (yes! They did it! You know … the big IT!), it seemed these two are on track to staying together and making it work.

Uh, well, cut to the fall finale episode, when Elena finds a photo of her look-a-like and former Damon/Stefan paramour, Katherine, and then freaking out and subsequently almost dying in a car accident. Apparently, this car accident and the events following it will somehow lead to Elena spending a lot more time with a certain Salvatore brother: Damon (!!!). Yeah, we’re confused too.

So, we asked Nina at Tuesday’s Golden Globes Young Hollywood party to tell us what we can expect in the crop of new episodes set to air beginning this January. “The last episode we ended on a cliffhanger,” she explained to MTV News. “My character gets into a extremely big car accident, she hits someone and you’re left hanging. You don’t know what’s going to happen, so we’re going to pick up right from there and you’re gong to see what happened and what happened after that.”

She very coyly added a split second later: “And, let’s just say Elena and Damon are gonna hang out a little bit.”

Uh oh…

“The Vampire Diaries” returns to the CW in January, but until then keep checking back with us for more scoop and news!
