The CW’s Thursday Delivers Year-to-Year Increases in Key Demos
October 16, 2009 (Burbank, CA) – The CW’s freshman hit THE VAMPIRE DIARIES gained momentum last night to score its largest audience (3.86mil) and best ratings in adults 18-34 (2.0/6), adults 18-49 (1.8/5) and women 18-49 (2.4/7) since its series premiere, according to preliminary Live Plus Same Day Nielsen ratings for Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009.
VAMPIRE DIARIES remains on a hot streak with young viewers, again ranking as Thursday’s #1 show on network TV with female teens (2.5/9). VAMPIRE DIARIES also ranked second in the hour with teens (1.8/7) and females 12-34 (2.6/8).
Both of The CW’s Thursday dramas were on the rise this week. VAMPIRE DIARIES improved 5% in adults 18-34, 6% in adults 18-49, 9% in women 18-49 and 10% in total viewers. The show retained 96% of its week ago delivery in women 18-34 (2.6/8). Meanwhile, SUPERNATURAL saw a nice bump this week, building 8% with women 18-34 (1.4/4), 27% with women 18-49 (1.4/3) and 7% with total viewers (2.6mil).
Not only were both VAMPIRE DIARIES and SUPERNATURAL up week-to-week, they’ve improved their time periods versus a year ago. VAMPIRE has gained 18% in adults 18-34 (2.0/6), 63% in women 18-34 (2.6/8), 6% in adults 18-49 (1.8/5) and 50% in women 18-49 (2.4/7) versus the time period delivery a year ago. And in its 5th season, SUPERNATURAL continues to build with year-to-year gains of 30% in adults 18-34 (1.3/4), 27% in women 18-34 (1.4/4) and 17% in women 18-49 (1.4/3).
With the year-over-year increases of both shows, The CW’s Thursday has improved overall by 14% in adults 18-34 (1.6/5), 43% in women 18-34 (2.0/6), 7% in adults 18-49 (1.5/4) and 36% in women 18-49 (1.9/5).
