Vampire Diaries' Katerina Graham: "Anyone Can Die"

Katerina Graham, who plays witch-in-training Bonnie Bennett on The Vampire Diaries, tells TVGuide.com that "anyone can die" on the show. We caught up with the 20-year-old actress to find out what about the Halloween episode made her cry, which of Bonnie's ancestors we've already met (it's not who you think) and who may be next on the chopping block.

TVGuide.com: How do you think Vampire Diaries differs from True Blood and Twilight?
Graham: I just think it's different vibes. True Blood has such a Southern vibe and Twilight [is more of] a human, vampire and werewolf thing. There also isn't a witch. The first episode we thought was very similar to Twilight, but the second episode, it completely forks and turns. I'm so grateful to those shows because they're part of the reason that our show got picked up. They opened the door.

TVGuide.com: Is Bonnie a good witch or an evil witch?
Graham: She's a good witch. She would never hurt anyone. She's blowing things up and causing fires and certain things are happening because she doesn't have control over it. I don't think she's doing it to necessarily hurt anyone. She's still Bonnie Bennett; she's still Elena Gilbert's best friend and the sweet girl who grew up in Mystic Falls, Virginia. But she's really doing some things that can hurt people. Just the thought of that terrifies her. Wait until you see the next episode; it evolves so much past anything you can imagine.

TVGuide.com: Bonnie's family has deep roots in Mystic Falls. Did they ever cross paths with Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder)?
Graham: They knew each other. Bonnie's great-great-great-great-grandmother was the maid for Katherine, the vampire that both Stefan and Damon were in love with. She and Jasmine Guy [who plays Bonnie's grandmother] come back and make appearances and make everything clear to me, sometimes taking the choices away from me and making me do things that I might not think are a great idea — things that Bonnie is hesitant about, that she's frustrated about, that she's angry about, that she wants nothing to do with, the characters have to step in and maybe physically convince her.

TVGuide.com: Do you think Bonnie would ever support a relationship between Stefan and Elena (Nina Dobrev)?
Graham: I think if she knew that Stefan caused Elena no harm, yeah, absolutely. I think she still has a very shady feeling about him. Even if he is slightly nice to her, she knows that feeling she had from touching him, it never really goes away. She knows there's something off there.

TVGuide.com: With the reveal that Vicki has become a vampire, how does that affect her friends and family?
Graham: More than you can imagine. The next episode is a very big episode, the biggest one so far. It's called "Haunted." It's coming out the week of Halloween. All I'll say is that when I read the script, this one made me cry. I was in tears. It was a very hard episode emotionally to read.

TVGuide.com: Will there be more deaths?
Graham: In our first meeting with the director and writers in Atlanta, we were sat down and we were told bluntly that this isn't The Elena Diaries, this isn't The Stefan Diaries and this isn't The Bonnie Diaries, this is The Vampire Diaries, and anyone can die and anything can happen. Every episode somebody dies. Yeah, there are going to be a lot more deaths, a lot more sex, a lot more magic, and fire and power.
