I hope this doesn't become a pattern. The Vampire Diaries introduced another new female vampire in last night's episode, but by the end, she was dead. What a waste of over 300 years.
This marked the second consecutive episode of The Vampire Diaries in which a Salvatore brother stakes another vampire. I guess they really want to be the only ones in Mystic Falls.
However, Lexis's death served a different, and perhaps much greater purpose. While Vicki's death last week was more of a shock, the main purpose was for the writers of The Vampire Diaries to illustrate the fact that no one is safe.
With Lexi, the point was that Damon isn't just a bad boy, he's a true villain. He half-jokingly mentioned his "Diabolical Master Plan," but after staking Lexi in order to get into the good graces of the Council, Damon proved that he'll do anything to protect himself, no matter who it hurts.
Once again, The Vampire Diaries is showing its teeth, daring to be different. At first it seemed like Damon was just the rebel, the slightly meaner brother who would eventually see the light and become a good guy. Instead, he's getting more and more evil with every episode, killing friends and enemies alike, destroying Caroline's confidence and worming his way into the Council.
I only hope that this love the show has of staking vampires never extends to Stefan or Damon. That would really suck.
