Paul Wesley Analyzes His 'Vampire Diaries' Character Traits

In every great sibling rivalry there's the good guy and the bad guy. But on "The Vampire Diaries," the rivalry between hot vampire brothers fighting for the affection of the same young lady, the lines can be a bit blurred.

"I don't think I am a good vampire," Paul Wesley, who plays Stefan, told MTV News. "I think Damon is a sociopath. I don't think Ian [Somerhalder] is going to see his character that way. Damon is completely oblivious."

Wesley thinks that Damon just really loves being a bloodsucker. "He's consumed in being a vampire and power and he really believes that feeding on humans ... it's just as simple and natural as breathing. He doesn't understand," he said. "There's no guilt, which is fascinating."

Wesley, who originally auditioned to play Damon before landing the role as the younger, gentler brother, added that fans are learning that Stefan, no longer feeding on humans is like getting over a painful drug addiction. "Stefan is fully aware of hurting others and harm, and so for him he's, like, always unhappy," he said. "It's almost like someone who's dependent on some sort of drug and then being in rehab, and you're never the same."

So, does Wesley have any good dish on what we might expect from the next episode of the show, which just got picked up for a full season by the CW? "Well, if I told you, I'd have to send the mob out to get you!" he joked. "Every episode is sort of contingent and relies on the next episode, and every episode ends in, like, cliff-hangers."
