'Vampire Diaries' Exec Producer Kevin Williamson Wants You To Know: 'This Isn't Twilight At All'

Vampires, vampires, vampires. If there's anything that's possessed our pop culture in the recent years, its the fanged undead who come out at night and, coffins or sparkles, seem to create the best love stories in modern fiction. After the success of "Twilight" and HBO's "True Blood," it seems hard to tell the difference between every new vampire love story that has popped into our radar, but "Vampire Diaries" producer Kevin Williamson assured us his new CW show had something different to offer.

"It's not just about vampires, its about all sorts of things that go bump in the night," he told MTV News, saying that there are certain aspects that help set it apart from the bloodsuckers that we are all so used to. Kevin also admits that at first he had no interest in the project because he thought it was nothing more than another version of the Stephenie Meyer's universe. "When I read the first book, I was like, I'm not doing this. This is 'Twilight.' I don't want anything to do with it. And then I kept reading and kept reading and I realized, this isn't 'Twilight' at all, this is actually where a girl falls in love with a vampire, but that's where [the comparison] ends." Kevin's #1 reason to jump on board then: "It's like a modern-day sexy 'Dark Shadows,'" Kevin explains, "and that was appealing."
